Bargaining Updates

Unions to resume bargaining with SAHO in March

Dear CUPE Health Care Member:

After a long hiatus, CUPE and its Coalition partners will be resuming bargaining with SAHO March 12-16, 2018 in Saskatoon.

Last fall, SAHO and the Provider Unions spent numerous days discussing a “principles document” which would have formed the basis for a tentative agreement. Amended versions of this document were exchanged, but agreement could not be reached on a framework that would avoid concessions and provide a reasonable wage increase over the term of a new collective agreement.

On November 27, CUPE, SEIU, and SGEU informed SAHO that the unions wished to return to their individual bargaining tables instead of continuing discussions on the principles document. No bargaining has taken place since that date.

In January 2018, SAHO initiated contact with CUPE, SEIU, and SGEU to discuss re-starting bargaining talks. The parties agreed that they would return to exchanging formal packages at the common table to attempt to reach a settlement.

CUPE is committed to bargaining forward, not backwards. Your bargaining committee will continue to say no to concessions and rollbacks and fight for a fair and reasonable wage increase for our 14,000 members.

To learn more, please plan to participate in a telephone town hall that will be held Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. Your bargaining committee will provide further details about the status of collective bargaining as well as many transition issues we are dealing with due to the replacement of 12 health regions with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The telephone town hall format allows members to ask questions and provide feedback to your bargaining committee, so your participation is extremely important.

We look forward to speaking with you on the telephone town hall.

In Solidarity,

Your CUPE Health Care Bargaining Committee
